KRI Chistmas Regatta:
The KRI Christmas Regatta was held this weekend at Lake Karapiro with some great racing in a number of events however the weather hampered efforts to complete the regatta on Sunday with the regatta finally being cancelled around 9am. Thus only Saturday's heats were completed.
The WRPC athletes showed they were on form after a number of aggressive training weeks. Their main competition during the regatta were the New Zealand Elite Summer Squad athletes, Auckland RPC and a few Southern RPC athletes were also competing.
Two of the highlights from Saturdays' racing was the WRPC Men's eight crossed the line in second place .6 of a second behind the NZ Elite Men's Eight and our U21 Women's eight full of our young new athletes finished 7 seconds behind the NZ Women's Elite Eight. We look forward to further strong racing at the North Island Club Championships starting on the 13th January 2012.

Tomorrow's Gold U18 Development Camp:
Waikato RPC ran their annual U18 Development Camp on the 14-16 Oct at Mangakino. 37 athletes attended and they were put through their paces with on water coaching sessions and erg testing. On Saturday afternoon NZ Elite Project Coach Mike Rodger talked to all athletes about how to make a fast boat. His biggest message was: fitness, strength/flexibility and time management.

Change of Assistant Coach at Waikato RPC:
It has now been 2 years since Andrea Harper, Mike Rodger and Ian Wright commenced with the Waikato RPC. These 2 years have been exceptionally busy and challenging. The past two seasons ( 2009/2010,2010/2011 ) achievements have been well highlighted, but we can safely say that the WRPC as a whole has received a pass mark both with its on water results and the numbers of WRPC athletes representing New Zealand at all levels.
As of Monday Mike Rodger has been seconded to the NZ Summer Squad and will be replaced by Wayne Maher. Wayne has coached many NZ crews over the past 5 years and has recently coached the 2011 Men’s U23 Quad at the World Champs in Amsterdam.
Please introduce yourself to Wayne and make him feel welcome.
Waikato University:
The Sir Edmund Hillary scholarships are available to students enrolled at the University of Waikato who are academic high achievers and who also excel at either arts or sports.
The University determines the maximum number of scholarships available annually. For example, in 2007, approximately 40 Scholarships were offered.
Applications close: 31 October 2011 and all Waikato RPC athletes attending/enrolling at Waikato Uni should apply for this great opportunity.
